While working in the nonprofit field to save old buildings, I saw firsthand the difficulty most homeowners have in locating contractors and craftsmen who understand traditional design and construction. And so, after a 12 year career in historic preservation, I started a consulting business, Old House Authority, to connect homeowners with the people and products necessary for historically appropriate renovations and restorations. Not only can I help you find a wonderful old house (with my connections I hear about a lot of properties before they come on the market), I can help you find the resources to make that house comfortable and efficient. My goal is to help secure your investment in and enjoyment of your old house.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Partner, Old House Authority, which helps preserve and share the history of old houses through Old House Diaries, a collaboration with VCU Libraries Special Collections.
Advocate for New Traditional design in historic settings to ensure that new buildings and additions to old buildings are visually harmonious with their neighbors.
Former Public Relations and Development Director, Historic Richmond Foundation, and Executive Director,The Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods.
Developed and managed a preservation program focused on vacant or abandoned buildings in old Richmond neighborhoods. As a result, approximately 100 buildings were purchased and rehabilitated and surrounding neighborhoods improved.
Recognized by Style magazine as "Richmonder of the Year," 2004, primarily for preservation leadership.
Developed the concept for and oversaw publication of “Built by Blacks: African American Architecture in Richmond, Virginia.”
